Impact on our politics
Through both policy and substance, our alumni continue to model how candidates and elected officials can create an outsized impact for their communities when they lead with courage and integrity.
In addition to being an alum of NPLA programming, Representative-elect Olaleye is a returned Peace Corps veteran from Stone Mountain, GA. Before running for State Representative in Georgia, Phil led safe community initiatives near his hometown. Phil has spent a life-time committed to serving his community and believes in a future where hardworking families can prosper and every child can thrive, regardless of their zip code or background.
Dan ran in the 2022 Republican primary to represent Virginia’s 5th Congressional District. Though he went on to lose, Dan’s race served as an important marker for NPLA. His ascension through our programmatic pipeline and into a heated primary election strengthened our sense of how to best support servant leaders at every point along their journey into politics.
An ATC alum, Asher first felt called to serve in the Peace Corps in South Africa, where she saw the power that systems, structures, and government programs can have. After six years in the private and NGO sectors, she made the pivot towards politics. Since then, she’s worked on campaigns of all levels of government and across the country. Asher’s making her impact in our politics now as the Executive Director of Serve America PAC.
Congressman Pat Ryan is a combat veteran, public servant, and alumni of one of the first-ever cohorts of Answering the Call. After ATC, Pat fought a closely contested 2018 primary for Congress. Though he lost, Pat demonstrated the resolve of a servant leader when he ran again and won his race to serve as Ulster, New York’s County Executive. When the opportunity presented itself, Pat again answered the call and ran and won his current seat representing New York’s 19th.
